The manager's ability to work amicably and democratically with groups while communicating effectively demonstrates relationship building. This emotional-intelligence capability concerns creating productive interpersonal connections, influencing constructively, communicating effectively, collaborating, and sustaining positive working relationships.
A democratic approach requires listening to others, encouraging participation, responding appropriately to different perspectives, and maintaining relationships even when individuals disagree. Strong communication reinforces this capability by helping the manager establish trust, clarify expectations, and manage interaction effectively.
Self-regulation focuses primarily on managing one's own emotional reactions and impulses. Motivation concerns the internal drive to achieve goals or persist through difficulty. Productive handling of emotions is broader and could include emotional management, but the scenario specifically emphasizes how the manager relates to and communicates with groups.
Relationship-building capabilities are important for TD professionals and managers because many organizational outcomes depend on cooperation rather than individual technical expertise alone. They support facilitation, coaching, leadership, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, and collaborative performance.
